Another pinup I did for deviant art. I think its a little hard for people to get into this character. Attractive or not the green skin tone seems to throw people off. However it is part of her charm for me. I can't say I've read her books at all but she frequently pops up in other books and shows.

Been busy and back when I did spend time with the show I would watch a bulk load of them at a time. When I think of the show and the comic I remember how over the top it was that why I wanted to do a perspective drawing of her.

I did this commission for a guy I met on deviant art. It was a chance for me draw some characters from MVC3. I admitted to several people that I new ABSOLUTELY nothing about X-23 when I started and finished the piece. After its completion I found out how far removed from the character the image is.

A commission illustration I did a while ago. I was asked to draw a more muscled Chun li. The reason she is on her toes is because I had originally sketched her with heels on. When I started the rough sketch it was over a weekend and it sat on my desk till the following saturday. I went through the illustration cleaned, inked, and colored forgetting that they were there.

Had this sketch on hold for a week almost. I wanted to do an Illustration for Josh Greathouse's web comic, Bone Yard Franky. I redrew the cast and got a little carried away. Some people may not stand out as much. Frank and JIm I think are the easiest recognizable but, Natasha and Carrie/Champagne are just a little to styled. Pretty much everyone with a face, except the the three extras behind Frank, are part of the cast. Well, here's a shot out Josh and his comic.

Another commissioned piece. I was asked to do an Illustration of A character just referred to as "RED". I hadn't taken the time to find out her actual name but scanning through the ref I was given I found a few things about her. I think she may be called Red Sonja. If that is her name I can understand just going by the nick name. The other is that apparently she is like Samson. I don't know the total ins an outs of it but she has some spell placed on her where she has to keep her chest bare at all time. I don't know if like samson this is the source of her strength or some bizarre curse.

I was asked to do a commission from someone who had seen my art and I was turned on to a rarity in anime. Its been called Manga Muscle girls. Or at least that was the way It was referred to. I like the blend of the typical overly cutesy anime damsels with the stern physic of body builders. Of course, some of these girls run the gambit from well toned to down right buff. So much so that there are some that would dwarf your standard comic action hero.

I guess I spoke too soon when I said that I made my last Illustration for the month. I fan of my art Stacey "Tron" Owens hit me up for a sketch to put in her book. I've been as much a fan of her work as well and I love her figure. When she asked if I could make this happen before she went to print I asked Mel if we could put the work on hold till I was done. He was cool with it. With this last sketch off my desk its going to be pretty quiet around here for a couple months. Here's hoping the work goes well and that I'm back to my routine by early July.

You may remember Belladaire from one of my earlier posts. I recently took the time to try and recreate one of my favorite original characters. She is essentially a fem-Al Capone. Posing as a dignified lady of luxury is part-time schtick. The truth of the matter is that she has her hands on the pulse of much of the shady dealing in the crime world. This pick is a bit out of character for her as she is the type to see this kind of behavior to be "undignified". On the other hand I made sure to give her a "Your going to pay for this", scowl.

Red Ninja 2

A while back I did a sketch of one of my favorite ninja of all time, Kurenai. From the ill received game "Red Ninja". When I decided to go off the deep end I, of course, kept her in mind. Also, there was a posting that I came across by some folks at Udon. They had a project where they took an old sketch and redrew it. The older sketches were like 6 years ago. I saw some pretty cool stuff come out of that project and was inspired by it. Sadly, my senses have recovered and I think its time to act more civilized. No more cleavage windows and girls with little to nothing on for a while. Although I may try to rough out a few pieces for that sketch book. We'll see.

I'll admit that I was starved for something "Big Ass". After that last sketch, I sat back and thought to myself "what to do next". I had this plan to draw Power Girl for a couple months now. She's already known for being top heavy but a size in apple bottom jeans never hurt in my book. Everybody's got there own interpretation of her. I considered using it as a cover to my next sketch booklet. That is "If" I get enough material ready for Dragon con. We'll see how it goes from there.

I haven't made up a new demo in years. My only other demo is one that I made shortly after joining Wild Hare. Gotten lost some where in the shuffle, I can't begin to think of where it is or find half the materials for it. Well out with the old I guess. Some some of the projects featured date date from as far as when I first joined Primal. Much thanks to them for letting me use those files. It was such a hassle back in the day to get anything from Wild Hare and if I ever see anything I did from Radical it'll be a long time coming.
A buddy of mine Casey suggested that I start this up and I had it finished sometime mid January. Its was about time and I haven't posted anything in what seems like an eternity. Looking to make some changes as far as my work habits are concerned. Not a new years resolution mind you. Just trying to reach a balance in my Work schedule and my personal projects. Hopefully I can start posting more frequently.

I had a plan to redesign all my favorite superheroes as street thugs and hoodlums but It's not going to happen anytime soon. My part time is waring me down and this coloring gig with Stokes is a guarantee that I wont have any free time to work on my own projects. He is that Luke cage 3 qtr that I told Steve about. By the time I get back to finishing it I'll probably want to work on something different.

I did a sketch a while back of Luke Cage and Steve suggested that I do one of Iron Fist. I tend to sit on these things till I have an idea of where I want to go with them. In this case as I was wrapping up that Velma piece I had a sudden inspiration. "What if all those years of hanging around Luke Cage made Iron Fist Ghetto?" Which, immediately became; "What if Eminem was Iron Fist?" The idea had me laughing my ass off. He was supposed to have a microphone and sneakers to go with his hoodie. As I sat down to sketching, I started listening to "Triumph" and "Iron Flag" over and over. It didn't take long before the Wu tang albums started influencing my decisions. I eventually wound up changing the concept a final time to reflect The Wu tang Clan angle. After all that, I still kept the hood.

Yeah, I know. You took one look and you knew she was a genius. Ha! I'd been planning on doing this sketch for a couple weeks but I didn't have the time to sit down and work on it. I'll admit that I liked Velma back when she was built like a brick house. The only problem was that she was a little to butch. When she got redesigned in What's new Scooby doo they made her mousy and petite. I got no hate on it, I just missed how big she was. All in all, she fit the kind of character that I would like to add some unnecessary pounds too.

I finally decided to pass the coloring of Anvil Chorus of to another artist. Dragon con convinced me to get back to what I enjoyed doing. Someone came to me and said that he had seen my work online and asked me for a commission. It was be cause of a contact from studio revolver. All he said was "No Blondes!", and told me it was a long story but I suspect that it may have something to do with an Ex. I started on this piece this afternoon and managed to wrap it up before dinner. It felt good to put the comic down and move on to something else. I hope that the new colorist works out. I honestly couldn't put as much effort into coloring the comic pages as I thought I would.

This projects been eating up a lot of my sketching time. Its a 6 page preview comic for Anvil chorus. I got all the pages inked and lettered. All I got left now is to color it. Its been put on hold a few times for other projects and I finally got the inks wrapped up a couple days ago. I had originally planned to have it all done for Dragon con but its becoming clear to me that its just not going to happen. Tom Fiester is a member of Studio Revolver that I know. He has a serious hard on to do everything himself. After all the time its taken to put this together, I can applaud his efforts but sadly I can't do it myself. Of course, Toms' work is usually late and thats part of the problem.

Another one of those pieces I was commissioned to do a couple months ago. This one was Robotech inspired. I was told to do a shot of two pilots in the middle of a chase and the one in pursuit was letting loose one of those trademark Macross barrage of missiles. Also they wanted one of those comic cut in reaction panels for each of the pilots.

This is another one of the Illustrations I had to put together for the Mecha and Manga book for Green ronin. If I'm correct It should be released in September. It was a fun project a lot of it was recreating Tv and Comic archetypes to give the reader a sense of the themes of manga. I liked doing these cause I enjoy throwing in goofy references to other shows and cartoons. This one is one of my favorites cause I'm pulling reference form 4 different anime.

I have been working on this Manga and Mecha project for over a month now. Its finished and I got permission to use some of the characters and Illustrations as portfolio pieces till the book gets released in September. It all started as what was supposed to be 12 pieces of artwork. The end turned out to be more like 20. It was a fun project. Now I have to get back to hunting down more commissions and Illustration gigs. Not sure what these are going to be used for in the end I was just given a loose description of the character. I know there's some people who also worked on Exalted on this book.

I hadn't posted in a while because I got a new gig for green ronin this time. Its been fun work but I've been busting my head against the wall worrying about the deadline. I needed to take a brake from the stuff so I dug up an ink that I had been planning on finishing. At first this was supposed to be my attempt to not make something so cartoony. In the end, I didn't like the direction it was going so I made a graphic out of it. It felt better. I'll see if I can manage some other Illustration with less cartooned influence another time.

Kurenai, the star of Ill-fated game titled "Red ninja". I loved this character design and when I fond out her back story, she immediately became one of my favorite characters. The game didn't do so well. It was another stealth assassin game in a long line of those types. Personally I kind of enjoyed Tenchu and other such games but I give them all the same failings. They have amazing ideas for being sneaky, because your character can't hold there own in a fight. Which makes perfect sense for an assassin. However they all want you to duke it out with some near godlike forces of nature for bosses. Which may sound cool, but rarely works out in execution. I actually bought a copy of the game. I've never played it though. My fear is that the game will disappoint me so badly that I'll loose my affection for it. Yeah, I know its stupid but its either hit or miss with me when it comes to manga and the past years have not been kind.

Finished another round of white wolf work. Its been fun working on those pieces. Have to admit that I didn't think I would get finished since my grandma passed away in the middle of the project. Luckily Brian gave me some extra time to finish and I got the finals handed in with little complication. I think I wrapped this one up last year when Steve noticed I hadn't posted in a month. The timing on those projects are crucial. I usually have to lay down any work I was putting together and just play catch up when I can.

Been trying to get some work done, but every now and then I hit a snag. Then I just can't seem to get any satisfying drawings done. So why not go back to doing something fun until you figure it out. Before I started posting, I would always do these little thumbnails of amazon women with swords. So I decided to actually finish one. I still haven't colored my last character design or inked anything new, but I remind myself that I'm wasting time. Atleast it felt good to take my mind off other projects and relax.

I really wanted to turn this into my new blog cover. Its not nearly ready for that. I needed to get this sketch out the door before I left for home. After the previous sketch, I realized it had been a while since I really cut loose. Her name is Belladaire. A villain from a pet project of my own. Even without her overwhelming physique she's quite charming. You can only trust her so long as she has need of you. Not a true backstabber, but most definitely looking out for her own best interest. Always certain to have more friends than enemies, not that they last long.

Everybody getdown!! I love classic superhero costumes. My blog cover with classic Dazzler pretty much sums it up for me. Although, I'll admit that his outfit feels more early 80's. At some time we all got on this kick to make Superheroes more realistic. I guess it makes them more believeable. Not me though. Its that crazy, larger than life aspect about these champions of justice that gets me excited. Lets all admit that Powerman was kinda pushing the envelope a bit anyway. I could imagine an editor saying, "Hey! what if Shaft had superpowers?" Plus he never really hit it big in the comic industry anyway. He was one of those C list superheroes that even classic fans barely took seriously. Come on, Doctor Doom owed the guy money one time, so he smashed up his place until Doom paid him.

I haven't posted in a while. Mostly because I been taking it slow after a few projects. These are a couple of characters from Crash Groove. Its a series inspired by games like Mega man and Metal slug. The grooves are powerful super suits that have fallen into the hands of dangerous minds and must be retrieved, but can also be used to save the world. (Or atleast thats what I remembered anyway) The kids in question are Amelia and Sebastian Masters. Here, they are seen sporting the Saber and Omni Groove. Its in black and white cause I'm lazy, and the series takes place around WWII. Buy War Bonds!!

I tried to sit down and handle up on my Machinist colors, but didn't get anywhere. So I took a break from it to try and stay productive. I find that if I get hung up on something its therapy to find something that I can more easily deal with. So I broke out a pencil sketch I had lying around of Mika and decided to ink it. I hadn't colored it like I would normaly because coloring just wasn't working for me that day. So I just settled on laying down some flat colors and playing around with a texture. Eventually I'll have them both colored.

Alright, I admit that I had a little fun with this one. Other than the fact that his face is Frylock just putting the flame effects on was a treat. I remember listening to alot of Wu-tang while I was working on this guy. Old dirty bastard was my inspiration. I just felt like he was the right kinda crazy to use as reference while I worked.

Had this sketch sitting on my desk for a while. I got the idea of converting it to vector art back when I was working on my White Wolf work. Its done in the style Bawidamann uses for his pinups. I really dig when people get the most out of vector styled graphics. Vector can seem to corporate at times. When people use it in there own work, I'm often impressed. As for Dazzler herself. I remember sitting at Revolvers old studio and thinking "what ever happened to Dazzler?". I dug her, even as a kid. When Adam Hughes did those Power Girl pinups, I loved them. After that, I decided that if there was a character out there that nobody cared about that I loved, I had to draw them.

Ok. This was one of my favorites for two reasons. The first being obvious. The second is that when I first put this piece together, I made it a daytime scene with the sun being directly behind the summoner character. I got my notes back and found out that the bandits that are attacking Jade(the archer character) cannot come out in the light of day.(much like Zartan) I had to come up with an answer and remembered the intro to Darkstalkers where John Talbain howls at the moon in the opening. Yep, I used it. Everytime I see that moon I think of him.

I was worried I wasn't going to have time to finish this. I guess this should all be a sign that things are starting to slow down in the entertainment industry. I struggled with her color scheme for a long time. Finally something clicked. All it needed was a different approach and it was all down hill. At one point she was a blonde. But I figured that Halo already owned the market on that. So, if she wasn't a blondie then better a red head then.

I realize that most of my favorite artists are pinup artists as well. They range from the tasteful to artsy, to down right erotic. This post wasn't all about BBW. I was working on this as a coloring test. I picked out an old sketch and decided to see if I could make it look cool without inking it. I had hoped to do this with a comic that I will be starting on. But as it turned out, the book is required to be inked. I was almost done with this pic when I had to run home for a family emergency.

Like the song says "another one bites the dust". It took me long enough but I finally got these guys done. I been trystay consistent but I can see where I got carried away with some of them. Thats what happens when you have so many gaps between you recent work. Now onward to the coloring phase. I may post a risque sketch or two between these next few. I had an idea about a take on Garfield and Odie. I'll leave it at that and let the idea stew for a bit.

She is from one of Mel's recent titles called "Anvil chorus". My first pass felt too much like a 3/4 character design sketch. I wanted something that had some life to it. Thats not a beer can. She's not old enough to drink. However, she is a super heroine. So who would stop her if she did?

I finally found out that this characters name is Foster. I only decided to color her because I wanted to test whether my computer was gonna crash on me again. We rented Uzumaki Chronicles 2 and I gotta admit I loved playing it. Sure its old as dirt by todays standards but fun to play none the less. I had to sketch Chouji after that. He said it himself. He's the most powerful chubby in the world. I would definitely place him in the ranks of heavy hitters like Greed and Earthquake. Chouji has been a pleasure to keep up with. He's not gonna save the universe, but he'll definitely stand by you till the end. Much props.

Another digital ink for game pointe. I keep going back and adjusting the lines of the characters so that the line weight stays consistent. Originally the lines were a lot thicker and when I compared them to the others it really didn't match up. Listened to The Deathly Hallows last night while inking and I think its solid thus far. Of course this could all change in an instant so, we'll see.
